The members of the British royal family are expected to fulfill their roles as figureheads of the United Kingdom as an inherent aspect of their membership in the family.

In the modern era, all senior members of the royal family have assumed this role as “ambassadors” for the sovereign by shouldering duties such as supporting charities, appearing at events, launching institutions, and touring the country to meet their subjects.

However, as figureheads, they are obligated to maintain their independence, objectivity, and lack of prejudice at all times.

Additionally, they are not permitted to take part in political activities or to express any preferences about political issues.

Although treading on this line might be difficult at times, it is still a firm order that all members are required to follow. Even though they make every effort to avoid it, there are occasions when it still manages to take them by surprise.

This was the situation that Princess of Wales Kate Middleton found herself in on October 6, 2022, when she traveled to Northern Ireland with her husband, Prince William.

Kate was taken aback by an Irish lady who confronted her with some controversial statements as she and Prince William met a gathering outside of the PIPS charity in Belfast.

Despite the fact that many people praised Kate for the way in which she dealt with the unforeseen circumstance, many people were also reminded of the troubled history that has existed between Northern Ireland and the United Kingdom.

As they shook hands, the lady replied, “It’s nice to meet you, but I think it would have been more appropriate if you did it in your own country.”

Before going on to the next individual, Kate maintained her calm and responded with a lighthearted chuckle.

The fact that Kate maintained her cool in the face of a potentially volatile scenario is something that has not gone ignored, despite the fact that things easily might have taken a turn for the worse.
